Steve Nash mocks your wide stance - Video posted at The Huffington Post
I don't want to go on the cart - It's a bad sign when people are conducting pre-mortems on Presidencies that have not yet turned one year old. Commentary and the Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan are hardly unbiased sources, but Noonan likely voted for President Obama, so her comments about competence do form the basis for a stinging rebuke. Ann Althouse is sticking to her guns and saying McCain still would have been worse. I'm inclined to agree, still one wonders how much worse he would have been.
More climatological calamities - Don Surber shares with us the surefire way to convince the legacy media to cover the story the blogosphere has been over for days. In fairness, as I linked yesterday, Declan McCullagh of CBS has owned this story. Head conspirator Eugene Volokh notes the efficacy of true peer review of scientific data, and why it should be the rule, rather than the exception in scientific research. Key graph: "[I]n any event, I don’t quite see why any such possible exceptions would apply here. The explanations that I’ve sometimes heard, which are that (1) the data might be misused by people who would make misleading arguments based on them, and (2) the initial gatherers of the data didn’t authorize the CRU to release it, strike me as unsound. Argument 1 does not seem acceptable for scientific research, since the proper scientific way to fight bad arguments is by responding with good ones, and not denying everyone access to the important data that would let them check your work. And argument 2 strikes me as implausible on the facts, since it’s not clear why the initial gatherers of the data would see it as any sort of secret."
This is very good news - Except it might not be. With as much debt as we individuals have accumulated, in accumulating piles o' stuff, adding to our debt to add more to our piles may be a poor choice. Further, as noted curmudgeon George Will advises: "Christmas etiquette involves composing one's face to feign pleasure when unwrapping an unwelcome windfall -- say, a sweater of an appalling color and a style that went out in the 1940s -- and murmuring 'Oh, you shouldn't have' without revealing that you mean exactly that. Price of the sweater: $50. Value to recipient: $0. Actually, less than zero, considering the psychological cost of the forced smile." Gift cards, my friends, gift cards, FTW!
We only see what we want to see -The face of Jesus or just rust. We seek miracles in the ordinary, thus diminishing the value of the true miracles.
Celebrity redemption tour keeps on trucking - Chris Brown to be interviewed by Robin Roberts for 20/20 days after his latest album drops. At least Jive records is owned by Sony and not ABC parent company Disney. In other celebrity domestic violence news, Elin Nordgren Woods reportedly inflicted Tiger's injuries, not the accident. Dr. Helen wonders when Tiger will be on GMA like Rhianna was. Like her, I would not recommend holding one's breath.
I'll believe it when I believe it - Bud Selig might retire after the 2012 season. His tenure has led to many improvements, including the wildcard and diminished labor strife. But Bud's legacy will be steroids. And like me, David Pinto is skeptical that Bud will ever loose the reins of power.
'Bama wins Iron Bowl - Today's Florida-Florida State match-up is all that stands between a match-up of one and two in the SEC Championship next Saturday.
Mmm, leftovers - Turkey for me and turkey for you.
