An abbreviated schedule of games this evening.
- St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres

P.J. Walters vs. Wade LeBlanc
Jerry Hairston's solo home run show looks to earn a third booking in an afternoon game in San Diego. The Padres face P.J. Walters who got the call when Kyle Lohse and Brad Penny went down on back to back days against the Angels. Wade LeBlanc's last start gave life to the Mariners bats. Such miracles are nearly unprecedented in sports lore.
- Oakland Atletics at Baltimore Orioles

Gio Gonzalez vs. Brad Bergesen
O's host the A's in the Alphabet Soup Game of the week. Oakland's offensive woes on the road have been modestly cured by their trip to Baltimore, but the test is sustainability when they leave Camden. They get tonight to work out the kinks.
- Kansas City Royals at Boston Red Sox

Brian Bannister vs. Daisuke Matsuzaka
The big story in Boston is Joe West, proving that when he acts out he gets his name in the papers. This is called rewarding the behavior, which inherently encourages more of it. My fellow scribes of the baseball blogosphere, next time Joe West behaves outlandishly, just say some goofball umpire made a jackass of himself. Deny the attention and he'll behave better, or in a perfect world act out so badly he never calls another big league game again.
- Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins

Tim Hudson vs. Ricky Nolasco
The NL East is separated by 3 games from top to bottom. The Braves are two and a half back and the Marlins three. Winning is the difference between second and fifth, no matter what the Phillies do against the Mets. Even in May games have an air of excitement and urgency. And Sun Life Stadium will still be mostly empty.
- Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

Gavin Floyd vs. Jeff Niemann
Tampa Bay's first slump was punctuated by the Red Sox thumping of the Rays last night to cap a three game sweep. They get the White Sox who continue to fill their line up card with a collection of out producers. This is the team you beat up on to get well.
- Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

Cole Hamels vs. Mike Pelfrey
Can the Phillies score against the Mets. Getting that first run will make a huge difference for a club that has been unable to buy a run, or take out a loan to get one on the installment plan. The Mets send Mike Pelfrey to go for the sweep.
- Pittsbugh Pirates at Cincinnati Reds

Charlie Morton vs. Johnny Cueto
Charlie Morton gets the ball again with a chance to set fire to his ERA again, or perhaps lower it some. His bad luck will be the stuff of legend, but at this point, he's a starting pitcher as likely to end your chances of winning just by taking the hill.
- New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins

Javier Vazquez vs. Nick Blackburn
New York goes for a sweep and a chance to climb closer to the struggling Rays. Minnesota needs to salvage one game from their home set with the Yankees.
