A little late, the game in Wrigley is already on-going. And it's already 5-0 in favor of the Cardinals. Randy Wells did not retire a single batter he faced. Pinella ejection in 3...2...1
- St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs

Chris Carpenter vs. Randy Wells
Cardinals and the Cubs from Wrigley on a Friday afternoon. Hard to top that as the entrance into your three-day weekend. Wind blowing out might help Albert Pujols rediscover how awesome he normally is.
- Oakland Atletics at Detroit Tigers

Ben Sheets vs. Dontrelle Willis
The A's move on to Detroit after taking two of three from the O's. Detroit wrapped up a west coast swing in Seattle Wednesday where they lost two of three. Brennan Boesch the spark plug when he first came up has posted a .257/.278/.429 line in his last nine games.
- Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees

Fausto Carmona vs. Phil Hughes
The Phil Hughes doubters have little to say. His 2.72 ERA and sparkling peripherals have made him the best pitcher on the Yankee staff this year. Not bad for a guy competing for the fifth starter's gig this summer.
- Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays

Kevin Millwood vs. Shaun Marcum
Tied with Boston in third, the Blue Jays have reached the point of the season where they suffer a modest correction, fall back from the pack to finish ten games back. The arrival of Baltimore delays their usual timetable.
- Houston Astros at Cincinnati Reds

Wandy Rodriguez vs. Sam LeCure
Cincinnati looks to Sam LeCure to have the balm to ensure the Houston Astros are not an irritant for the first place Reds. Wandy Rodriguez has been broken this season, much like the rest of the Astros.
- Philadelphia Phillies at Florida Marlins

Kyle Kendrick vs. Chris Volstad
Will the Phillies ever score again? Tonight, watch them drop 20 on an unsuspecting Chris Volstad. If he keeps them in check for three or four innings, though, and the Phunkies start pressing it will be ugly.
- Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

Freddy Garcia vs. David Price
Classic mismatch. A young pitcher with all the talent in the world against an elder who survives on nerve and guile. Obviously Garcia's got Price right where he wants him.
- Kansas City Royals at Boston Red Sox

Kyle Davies vs. Tim Wakefield
Wakefield's last outing helped perpetuate the Philly Phunk. Matched up against perennial underachiever Kyle Davies gives him an easier opponent than Roy Halladay was. For Boston who seems to always struggle with Kansas City ease is relative.
- Pittsbugh Pirates at Atlanta Braves

Zach Duke vs. Derek Lowe
Charlie Morton doesn't get to face his old club, however Nate McLouth. As pointed out all over, Morton and McLouth have struggled this year. Morton's had bad luck. It's near the point where McLouth's struggles can't be called Small Sample Size anymore.
- New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers

Johan Santana vs. Yovani Gallardo
Fresh off a hat trick of white washings of their division leader, the Mets march to Milwaukee intent on spreading mayhem and chaos to Wisconsin. Facing a team that's on a run like the Mets is not what the doctor ordered for the Brewers.
- Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins

Colby Lewis vs. Kevin Slowey
A battle of division leaders in Minnesota mirrors the matchup of their nearest pursuers in Motown. Texas remains the least consistent of the current front runners in the AL, but they benefit from a surprisingly inept division. Minnesota has been uneven, thanks largely to a solid but unspectacular staff.
- Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies

Carlos Monasterios vs. Jeff Francis
After getting duped by Ted Lilly and his rubber phobia, the Dodgers press on to Colorado to take on the suddenly surging Rockies. Colorado's early scuffles have left them in the middle of the NL West pack, but taking two of three from LA will put them in a tie with the Dodgers for second in the Division.
- Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres

John Lannan vs. Clayton Richard
The future teammates of Baseball Jesus are in San Diego to take on the Padres. Washington has slipped from second to tied for fourth in the NL East, but Philly's slide has kept them just three games back.
- Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Angels

Cliff Lee vs. Scott Kazmir
The Mariners and Angels meet in the underachievement exhibition. If any team in the AL West was destined to play as poorly as Seattle has, it was thought to be Oakland. The Angles have been mediocre, but after six trips to the playoffs in eight seasons, mediocrity is difficult to tolerate.
- Arizona Diamondbacks at San Francisco Giants

Edwin Jackson vs. Matt Cain
Another pair of struggling teams meet in San Francisco. The Giants had been in second a half game back of San Diego two weeks ago. Now, three and a half back and in fourth, they have their work cut out. Arizona is already staring at another lost summer.
